Getting Ready for Kindergarten Calendar

The Getting Ready for Kindergarten Calendar is developed by the Elgin Partnership for Early Learning (EPEL), United Way of Elgin and members of the Gail Borden Library staff.  The Getting Ready for Kindergarten Calendar is a tool that offers activities to enhance the development of skills needed in kindergarten.  Calendars are printed in both English and Spanish and more than 60,000 have been distributed to local schools, libraries, childcare centers and community organizations.

The calendar features the “Give Me Five” branding and messaging campaign developed by School District U-46 that promotes a shared definition of school readiness.  In 2014 we were able to expand calendar production from 10,000 to 13,000 to include the surrounding school districts of CUSD 301 and District 300 in calendar distribution.

The Getting Ready for Kindergarten Calendar is highly anticipated by families each year to build upon the efforts that direct service partners are doing with their children.  Local child care centers have reported that families use activities in the calendar three to four times a week with their children.  Gail Borden staff members introduce the calendar to families through story time classes and ReaderShip visits. Calendars are available at the Early Learning Center desk, too.
