MEDIA ALERT

DINOSAUR HUNTER BUILDS SKELETON OF GIANT PREDATOR AT GAIL BORDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY, ELGIN IL

Join Dr. Paul Sereno and Project Exploration Crew as they build dinosaurs in the Gail Borden Public Library for GIANTS

Media Open House Wednesday, August 24, 11:00 a.m.

WHAT:

The Gail Borden Public Library invites you to join the installation of GIANTS, African Dinosaurs, created by Project Exploration. Paleontologist Dr. Paul Sereno and educator Gabrielle Lyon will introduce highlights of the exhibit and be available for questions and photos while they work to install Afrovenator, a 25-foot predatory African dinosaur in the library’s Youth Center.

GIANTS is NOT your ordinary dinosaur exhibit. Most dinosaurs are known from North America and Asia. Project Exploration’s GIANTS offers a glimpse of what the dinosaur world was like on Africa more than 100 million years ago. The exhibit includes the 60-foot-long rearing plant-eater, Jobaria; the skull of Carcharodontosaurus, Africa’s “answer to T-rex,”; Suchomimus, a fearsome fish-eating predatory dinosaur that gained fame as a leading antagonist in Jurassic Park III; flying pterosaurs and much more.

You’ll be among the first to get a preview -- touch hundred million year old fossils, learn about Sereno’s upcoming expedition to the Sahara – and find out about the many programs designed to enrich this adventure in science and the arts.
