Security Guard

Gail Borden Public Library has an immediate opening for a part-time Security Guard.  The individual in this position will patrol the interior andexterior of the Main Library, as well as the branch locations. The person in this position must exercise sound judgment in interpreting library safety and security policies with the ability to take decisive action when needed. This position requires the ability to make continuous rounds of all public and staff areas, including parking areas.

 

The mix of duties for this position includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assists staff in maintaining appropriate customer behavior
  • Enforces correction of minor policy infractions
  • Writes Incident Reports for unusual or disruptive incidents
  • Assists in monitoring theft detection
  • Performs a total security check of Library facilities after closing
  • Assists with maintenance functions as needed

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • Ability to continuously walk throughout the Library’s indoor and outdoor areas and work independently
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Prior police, fire or military experience strongly preferred
  • Spanish language skills are a plus

 

18 hours per week; schedule includes afternoon, evening and weekend hours

Hourly Rate:   $15.46 per hour

Temporary Branch Services Clerk

 

Three temporary part-time positions will be available at our Branch locations starting in May through mid-August 2019. We are looking for creative and enthusiastic individuals with excellent interpersonal skills who can juggle tasks in a fast-paced environment. The individuals in these positions need to be versatile, customer-focused and enjoy providing top-notch customer service.The mix of duties will include:

  • Assisting children and adults with the summer reading program
  • Assisting customers with computer applications, printing, self-check and DVD dispenser equipment, and eReader and other mobile devices
  • Helping with family programs

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Experience working with children a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus

18 hours per week; schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours

Hourly Rate:  $12.50 per hour

Customer Relations Assistant Department Head

Gail Borden Public Library is seeking a dynamic individual with strong leadership, organizational, and customer service skills to serve as the Assistant Department Head to our busy Customer Relations Department. This position exercises a large degree of independent judgement with the daily management and operations of the 25+ member department. The person in this position will be required to have competencies with all Customer Relations job functions, including but not limited to customer service, drive-up procedures, concierge service, and library card registration. In addition to working closely with the Director of Customer Relations, this position will serve as the Person-in-Charge during the absence of the Customer Relations Director.

Some of the essential responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Department Director with the supervision and coordination of department staff, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and mentoring
  • Assists with the development of departmental procedure manuals
  • Reviews and approves department payroll
  • Knows and applies library policies and procedures fairly and equitably
  • Provides support to staff dealing with escalated customer complaints/issues
  • Acts as Person-In-Charge in absence of the department Director

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a public library environment
  • Supervisory and extensive customer service experience required
  • Clear and effective verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to handle difficult and/or emergency situations in a calm, capable manner
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and other library integrated software systems
  • Good judgment in decision-making while following library policies
  • Friendly, positive, courteous, and cooperative attitude toward customers & staff
  • Positive attitude in support of the library’s mission, vision and values
  • Bilingual fluency in English & Spanish preferred

Full-time, exempt position; must be available to work a combination of days, nights, & weekend hours

Salary:$44,012 + Excellent Benefits
