Branch Services Clerk   

If you enjoy providing top-notch customer service and want to join our versatile and resourceful Rakow Branch Services team, we have an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for a customer-focused, creative and enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can master a variety of tasks in a busy environment. The mix of duties includes assisting customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, eReader and other mobile devices, as well as, assisting with library programs, material handling, and shelving.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Experience working with children a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus

18 hours per week - Schedule includes weekday, evening and weekend hours.

Hourly Rate:  $12.90 per hour

Family Engagement Librarian

Do you know popular kids’ books from Willems to Telgemeier to Riordan? Do you enjoy engaging families with meaningful programs and fun activities? We are seeking a visionary librarian to engage and inspire our multi-generational families!

Do you have a keen interest in fostering and promoting services for families? We’d like you to help us take our family programming to a new level. The Gail Borden Public Library District is an award-winning, cutting-edge library district with a culturally diverse population of 147,000 residents.

The programming component to this position includes varied tasks including selecting, hiring, and hosting family programs; serving on interdepartmental committees to plan large-scale events (often including community partners); conducting class visits; and presenting children’s programs. This position also assists in administering our Battle of the Books program throughout our large school district. In this position, you’ll be part of a collaborative team of 7 librarians along with Associates in our busy, fun, and creative group.

Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited MLS
  • Extensive knowledge of children’s literature
  • Must be passionate about working with families and have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to communicate well with children and adults.
  • Highly developed organizational and project management skills
  • Familiarity with technology trends such as 3D printing, Apple TV, and educational technologies (i.e. Ozobots, etc)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and be able to adapt to changing work situations and job requirements
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
  • Spanish language speaking skills, a plus

Full-time, exempt position (37.5 hours per week); must be available to work days, evenings & weekends

Salary: $50,037.00 + Excellent Benefits

Audio Visual Technician

Gail Borden Library has an opening for a part-time Audio Visual Technician who will be primarily responsible for the set-up, break down and troubleshooting of AV technology for library programs and events, including meetings, public and internal events, programs, while ensuring complete customer satisfaction. The successful individual in this position will be a team player, who will work with other members of the IT Department, and be well-organized with excellent time management, prioritization capabilities and follow-up skills.

Some of the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up and breaking down AV equipment, including microphones, projection equipment, digital displays, and other technical equipment as per documented requests
  • Making necessary decisions when assisting with installation and upgrade of technology, which may include, AV equipment, computers, and telephone systems
  • Assisting and instructing staff and outside presenters regarding proper usage and operation of AV equipment
  • Performing routine testing and problem diagnostics for AV equipment
  • Troubleshooting last minute AV problems with the ability to think quickly and come to resolutions to resolve the situation
  • Performing first level support to staff for technology issues such as desktop computers, printers, basic application software, laptops and other devices

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of general IT experience with demonstrated technical knowledge to include installation, support, and troubleshooting of AV and other computer equipment  
  • Professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Must have a desire to take ownership and responsibility of quality workmanship
  • Demonstrated ability of Microsoft Office, Windows OS and other industry software
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends

Part-time: 25 hours per week; schedule is mostly evening and weekend hours

Hourly Rate:  $18.55 per hour + enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and prorated time-off benefits.
