Primary job duties include:

  • Performs circulation services for library materials which includes check-in, check-out and renewing items, placing holds, registering new library cards, or updating and registering customers for library programs, services, or classes.
  • Provides information to customers by answering questions and being proactive with offering assistance in a friendly and professional manner.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A real “people Person,” enthusiastic, caring, friendly, and empathetic.
  • A team player who thinks quickly on their feet as decisions need to be made.
  • A self-starter with the initiative and courage to propose new ideas.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

25 hours per week – combination of days, nights, and weekend hours.       

Hourly Rate:  $17.00 per hour + Enrollment in IMRF pension plan + prorated time-off benefits.

Senior Branch Assistant

We are looking for a friendly individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our versatile, cross-trained Branch Library Services team. The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic team player who makes customers feel at home and can be an exemplary Person in Charge in the manager’s absence.

In this role you will:

  • Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults.
  • Assist customers with computer applications and mobile devices.
  • Perform circulation routines, including library card registration, material handling, and shelving.
  • Serve as Person in Charge in the manager’s absence.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous library and customer service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills desirable.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch.

 

Part-Time: 18 hours per week at the Rakow Branch and South Elgin Branch. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours.

Hourly Rate:  $19.00 per hour + time-off benefits.

Hispanic Services Program Assistant 

¿Te encanta ayudar a los demás/Do you love helping others? We are looking for a friendly, bilingual, and organized person to join the Hispanic Services Department at our Main Library location. You will be working alongside our five-member team at an assortment of programs inside the library and in the community. Candidates must have excellent customer service skills and love working with Spanish-speaking populations of all ages!

In this role you will:

  • Support the day-to-day activities of the Hispanic Services Department which may include on-site and off-site program set-up, clean up, running errands, and additional tasks.
  • Perform clerical duties for program agreements, marketing, and data entry.
  • Translate Spanish/English information, as needed.
  • Oversee technology needs for in-person and virtual programs.

You will need to be:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with diverse populations.
  • Able to work a variable schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and able to meet deadlines.
  • Able to take direction and work with various levels of staff.

 Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Must successfully be able to complete language skills test at the proficient level.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a safe driving record.

28 hours per week – schedule may include days, nights, and weekend hours.          

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour + Enrollment in IMRF Pension Plan + Excellent Time-off Benefits.

Summer Studio 270 Assistant

Do you like having fun and enjoy interacting teens? If so, then we have a great opportunity for you during the upcoming summer months. Our teen center (Studio 270) at the Main Library location will have 2 positions available starting in May.

We are looking for creative, enthusiastic, and technology-minded individuals to assist our high-school aged customers.  You will be working as part of a team to help with an assortment of functions, such as:

  • Helping teens with general computer use
  • Staffing the public service desk in Studio 270
  • Monitoring teen behavior within the Studio
  • Assisting with teen library programs, including set-up and clean-up of materials

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate well with high school teens.
  • Customer service experience and experience working with teens is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Mac systems is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills are a plus.

 

2 Temporary Positions - 18 hours per week - schedule includes afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.

  • Position 1 – 15 weeks
  • Position 2 – 18 weeks        

Pay Rate:  $17.00 per hour

Summer KidSpace Desk & Program Page

Do you like having fun and engaging with children? Our KidSpace Department at the Main Library has a great summer opportunity for you! We have a temporary position available starting late May through August. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual, who loves working with children and will provide support in our fast-paced, energy-driven, kid-friendly department.   

The mix of duties includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assisting with activities at the Youth Center Help Desk.
  • Assisting at children’s programs with tasks such as modeling story-time behaviors, monitoring the crowd, and other tasks.
  • Assisting children and caregivers with Youth Center computers and other technologies.
  • Supporting the department with many behind-the-scenes tasks.
  • Retrieving materials as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age requirement - 16 years of age.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills and be comfortable working with the public.
  • Must have skills using basic computer applications including internet searches and word processing programs.
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills desirable.
  • Flexibility and availability to work a varied schedule which may include days, evenings, and weekend hours.     

Temporary Position - 18 hours per week

Pay Rate:   $ 15.00 per hour

KidSpace Summer Library Associate

Do you like having fun and engaging with children as they explore the world around them? Our KidSpace Department at the Main Library has a great summer opportunity for you!  We have a 12-week position which will be available starting late May through mid-August to assist our young customers and their caregivers.

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate must be able to juggle tasks in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working with children.  The mix of duties includes providing basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children and their parents/caregivers, assisting our young customers with computer applications, assisting with programs for children, and encouraging Summer Reading Challenge participation.   

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience working with children in group settings.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Previous library experience desirable.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills desirable.
  • Flexibility and availability to work a varied schedule which may include days, evenings, and weekend hours.

Temporary Position - 18 hours per week; schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours.

Pay rate:  $21.00 per hour

Two temporary part-time positions will be available at our Rakow Branch and South Elgin Branch locations from May through August 2024. We are looking for friendly individuals with excellent communication and customer service skills. The individuals in these positions need to be versatile and reliable.

 

In this role you will:

  • Assist children and adults with the summer reading program
  • Assist with children’s and family programs
  • Perform circulation routines, including material handling and shelving
  • Assist customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, eReader, and other mobile devices

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus
  • Experience working with children a plus
  • Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch
