Digital Services Library Clerk 

The Gail Borden Public Main Library has a part-time position available at the public Computer Center Desk in the Digital Services Department.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with a team to provide excellent customer service
  • Assisting customers with logging into computers, accessing websites, and formatting documents
  • Assisting customers with printing, scanning, copying, and faxing
  • Preparing devices and the Computer Training Room for classes
  • Maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for library users
  • Data entry
  • Promoting library services
  • Answering phone calls and providing in-person directional assistance to library users

 

Other Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • Good clerical and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must be a “people” person and have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Spanish language skills are a plus

 

Part-Time: 12 hours per week; schedule subject to change and may include day, evening, and weekend hours. The current schedule is: Tuesday 9AM-1PM Wednesday 12PM-4PM, and Thursday 12PM-4PM.

Hourly Rate: $14.41 per hour

Information Services Library Clerk

The Gail Borden Public Main Library has a part-time position available at the public Information Desk in Information Services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with a team to provide excellent customer service
  • Assisting customers with locating materials and resources on the second floor
  • Serving as a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent*
  • Promoting library services
  • Referring questions to a librarian as appropriate
  • Maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for library users
  • Data entry

*Eligibility requirements to become a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent:

  • U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Does not have a record of either: (i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or (ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including but not limited to embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • Good clerical and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must be a “people” person and have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Spanish language skills are a plus

Branch Services Clerk 

If you enjoy providing top-notch customer service and want to join our talented and resourceful library team, we have an exciting opportunity for you! The South Elgin Branch Library location is looking for a customer-focused, creative and enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can master a variety of tasks in a busy environment. The mix of duties includes: assisting customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, eReader and other mobile devices, as well as, assisting with library programs, material handling, and shelving.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Experience working with children a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus

Part-Time: 18 hours per week at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch Libraries. (Schedule includes weekday, evening and weekend hours. The Library reserves the right to change the schedule as necessitated by the library’s operational demands.)

  • Wednesday 3-7 pm
  • Thursday 3-7pm
  • Saturday 12-5 pm

Bookmobile Services Assistant 

Are you looking for a new and exciting part-time job in a vibrant community? Are you interested in providing excellent customer service to both our English and Spanish-speaking customers? Are you a hands-on individual who enjoys working closely with people? If so, then Gail Borden Library has a great opportunity for you in our Bookmobile Services Department.

This position requires working onboard the Bookmobile with the rest of our Bookmobile Services team to venture beyond the library’s walls and engage our customers where they live, work, play, and relax.  The successful individual needs to be bilingual in English and Spanish, an excellent team player, and well-organized with excellent time management, prioritization capabilities and follow-up skills.

Some of the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists Bookmobile customers with questions and information requests
  • Sorts and shelves library materials aboard the Bookmobile and at the Library
  • Ensures appropriate materials are shelved for the audience of each day’s route
  • Performs daily check out/check in of materials on board Bookmobile and at Main Library
  • Assists with daily vehicle checklist and logs
  • Uses the library’s software for check out of materials, extended usage fees, and library card registrations
  • Takes action and knows the procedures to deal with potentially disruptive or unsafe situations
  • Works with other Bookmobile staff to develop a positive, collaborative, and strong Bookmobile Services team
  • Adapts well to changes in existing practices, library routines, and workflows

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bilingual Spanish/English verbal language skills are required
  • Previous customer service experience a plus
  • Experience working with children a plus
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Library ILS experience a plus
  • Experience with school bus or large vehicles a plus

Part-time:  18 hours per week; schedule includes days, evenings and weekend hours

Hourly Rate:  $13.16 per hour
