KidSpace Associate

We are looking for a creative and adaptive person to join our KidSpace Department at the Main Library. This position provides a wide range of library services related to children and their caregivers. Experience, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are key to being successful in this position. A genuine service-oriented attitude and enthusiasm for working with children of all ages are essential.
In this role you will:
- Plan and present preschool programs and events.
- Provide reader's advisory and reference assistance to children and their caregivers.
- Assist individuals with the online catalog and other electronic resources.
- Provide class visits and tours of the department.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
You will need to be:
- Friendly, outgoing, and able to build relationships at all levels.
- Experienced in providing excellent customer service.
- Experienced in planning and presenting Storytimes in small and large groups.
- Knowledgeable about children's books, materials, and technology trends in education.
- Able to collaborate with a team and work one-on-one with customers and staff.
- A motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
- Mindful, adaptable, and open to new ideas and feedback.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience interacting with young children in group settings.
- Excellent presentation skills for groups of all sizes and ages.
- Basic knowledge of early literacy practices.
- Public library experience desirable.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record.
28 hours per week; variable schedule.
Pay rate: $21.00 per hour + Enrollment in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund + Prorated Time-Off Benefits
