Youth After School Programs
School District U-46 Safe After School Program
SAFE
is a program designed to provide quality before and after school care,
for a fee, to children in School District U-46 currently enrolled in
kindergarten to sixth grades while their parents work or further their
own education. SAFE is not available at all schools.
Life Skills Classes/Workshops/Mentoring
Boys and Girls Club
The
mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin is to enable all young
people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible
citizens. Among the programs they offer are Life Skills to develop
young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture
their own well-being, set personal goals, and live successfully as
self-sufficient adults. Activities include drug education, gang
resistance, cultural appreciation, diversity training, and peer chat.
Elgin Gang and Drug Task Force (EGDTF)
EGDTF
offers personal service and materials to help youth understand the
devastating affects drugs have on themselves, their family and the
community, and make lifestyle changes in order to avoid intervention
later in life.
Centro de Información
Centro
de Información offers a Families in Crisis program with the Department
of Children and Family Services(DCFS) that is intended improve school
attendance, decrease suspensions, increase children's behavior, social,
and educational skills, and strengthen families.

The U-46
High School Guidance Counselors focus on students’ social/emotional
issues as well as academics and college and career planning.
