Juggling Funny Stories with Chris Fascione - Meeting Rooms

Enjoy nationally-known story-performer, juggler and mime Chris Fascione as he acts out some of the best known stories from classical and contemporary children's literature.

 

Special Lecture by Dr. Paul Sereno - Tickets required.

Paleontologist Dr. Paul Sereno from the University of Chicago, cofounder of Project Exploration, will talk about the GIANTS exhibit. Watch for upcoming details.

 

Fun Making Fossils with Don Baumgartner - Meeting Rooms

Fossils are proof that animals and plants lived before us. Learn about fossils from Illinois and elsewhere. Cast your own fossil replicas to keep, such as dino claws, fossil fish, mammoth teeth, trilobites and more.

 

Planting a Living Fossil Seed with Lonny Stark - Meeting Room C

Lonnie Starks and his Spanish translator will tell participants about the Dawn Redwood which can grow in our climate. They will plant this living fossil seed to take home and grow.

 

“Diggin Dinos,” A Burpee Museum Outreach Program - Meeting Rooms

How do you find & dig out a dinosaur? Two staff members from the Burpee Museum who went on a dig in Montana will tell about digging methods and discoveries. See a slide show and some of the ‘finds’ from the dig.

 

“Fossil & Dinosaur Basics,” A Burpee Museum Outreach Program - Meeting Rooms

Do you want to know more about fossils? Experts from the Burpee Museum will help you understand how fossils were formed, give clues about geological times and how dinosaurs are a part of knowing about fossils. Look at wonderful specimens!

 

How to Find a Dinosaur! with Bill Harrison

Como Encontrar un Dinosaurio! con Bill Harrison - Meeting Rooms

Bill Harrison, a professor at Northern Illinois University was on the team that excavated “Jane” now at the Burpee Museum in Rockford. Join us for an interesting evening about dinosaurs with this Spanish-speaking expert.

 

Fossil Crafts with Janet Riehecky - Registration required. Sign up begins Oct 31.

Famed Local Dinosaur Author Janet Riehecky will lead the participants in a series of dinosaur crafts, including making a Velociraptor claw and a dinosaur diorama.

 

Wizards, Witches & Dinosaurs: Creative Writing for Young Authors - Conference Room. Registration required. Limited to 25. Sign up begins Oct 24.

Put your imagination to work. Learn how to write stories that involve wizards, dragons, or creatures such as tyrannosaurus rex or a brontosaurus. Writer Joyce Cienbronowicz will share writing techniques that will help you write ‘spellbinding’ stories.

 

Where are the Illinois Dinosaurs? with Mark Kuntz - Meeting Room A and B

Where O Where would our dinos be? Why haven’t we had a big discovery in Illinois? Join Mark Kuntz to see what the possibilities are of discovery and see his Tullly Monster collection.

 

Donuts with Dinosaurs and Paleo-Artist Lonny Stark – Meeting Rooms A, B, and C.  Advance registration is required.  Space is limited.

Bring a parent or adult friend to join Lonny Stark for donuts, stories, songs, and cool take-home crafts.  Please note: Each child attending this event must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.  Strollers and siblings will not be permitted in the room.  Reservations accepted beginning Monday, August 29 for all three dates.  Please call the Early Learning Center at (847)-429-4595.

 

Classical Piano Performance by Ian Moschenross

The program will include works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann. Dr. Moschenross, Assistant Professor of Piano and Chair of the Music Department at Monmouth College, Illinois is a celebrated pianist.

 

Meet a Paleontologist! - Meeting Rooms

Joe Peterson is a paleontologist. You will learn about his work which is digging, working at museums and working with fossils. You will love to see the pictures he draws of bones and dinosaurs and gives to his audience to take home.

 

Paleontology Special with Rob Sula - Meeting Rooms

Join us on a trip 66 million years into earth's past! Learn about Triceratops,T rex and more. Using actual fossil specimens,Rob Sula, a true dinosaur expert, will lecture on the fantastic creatures that inhabited the Hell Creek formation, the geologic end of the dinosaurs.
