1,2,3, Go!

Is bigger really better? It absolutely is, when you’re talking about pictures. Families with 1, 2, and 3 year olds are invited to enjoy stories projected onto our Big Screen, along with rhymes, musical activities, and more. No registration required.

Baby Rhyme Time

Get your baby off to a bright start. Babies birth through 11 months and their grown-ups are welcome at a story program designed to enhance baby brain development in a welcoming setting. Please register in advance.

Battle of the Books

Make your school look cool and compete with your team after reading some amazing books. Fourth through sixth graders from Elgin, South Elgin, Bartlett, and Streamwood participate in this annual event that adds pizzazz to the late fall and winter months. Drop In Story Time

Children three to six years old are invited to Story Time at Rakow Branch. No need to register for this opportunity to enrich your child’s vocabulary and meet new friends.

Family Films

Drop in and enjoy family friendly films together. Most titles are recent releases, but you might run into an old favorite, too. Children twelve and under are asked to bring along an adult.

Take a break as a family after your busy day with thirty minutes of active movement, stories, and fun! While children of all ages are welcome, activities are most appropriate for children three to six.

The Gaming Event

Players in grade 3 and up are welcome at our monthly event featuring Pokemon™, Yu-Gi-Oh™, and other role-playing games. If you are new to these games, come anyway and we’ll teach you everything you need to know. Drop in and give it a try.

No School Day Specials

Check our calendar when U-46 students have a day off of school. Chances are you’ll find fun of one kind or another, from do-it-yourself activities to group events or family films.

Panera Milk and Cookie Story Time

Meet your traveling librarian at the Panera Bread on Randall Road in South Elgin. Your preschooler will enjoy stories read by a library staff member, followed by a milk and cookie snack compliments of Panera.

Read to Rover

Tails are wagging at Read to Rover. School-aged kids may practice their reading skills by cuddling up with a good book and reading aloud to a fully trained and certified therapy dog. Sign up ahead to meet man’s best friend at either the Main Library or Rakow Branch.

Sensory Story Time

Families are invited to 30 minutes of stories and music especially chosen for children ages 4-8 with developmental delays and sensory needs.

Special Events

Check our monthly calendar for special events. Seasonal themes, popular book characters, and anything and everything of interest to kids will serve as the focal point. Some require sign-up or occur at specific times, while others are available for drop-in participation during an advertised period.

Story Mix for Three to Six

Terrific Twos

Two-year-olds and their favorite grown-ups: join us for 20 minutes of stories, interactive fingerplays and large muscle activities. Pre-registration required.

Wonderful Ones

Supercharge your baby’s brain by joining us for 15 minutes of age-appropriate stories, rhymes, music and movement followed by a 15-minute play period. Children 12 to 23 months are welcome to attend with a parent or caregiver. Registration required.

Zone Events
