Library cards expire every three years. You must visit a Gail Borden Public Library branch in person to renew your card.

How to tell when your library card expires

  • Check your account online – You will see the expiration date listed below your telephone numbers
  • Contact us – staff can check the status of your account

What happens when your library card expires?

Your card expires at midnight CST on the expiration date. Once it has expired, you will not be able to:

  • Borrow books or other materials
  • Renew your checked-out items
  • Place holds
  • Access ebooks and other digital content

How to renew your library card

At any time leading up to or after the expiration date:

  1. If you can’t visit a branch right away, contact us – staff can extend your expiration date for up to 1 month to give you more time or renew your card over the phone if all library card information is the same.
  2. If you have extended use fees owing, pay online or at any branch. Outstanding charges must be less than $10 before your card can be renewed.
  3. Bring identification showing your name and current address to any Gail Borden Public Library branch to renew your card. If your address is not correct on your identification, you will also need to show a utility bill or first class mail with name and address postmarked within the last two weeks, a rental agreement, or tax bill to verify current address.
