Hispanic Services Program Assistant

Gail Borden Library District is looking for a friendly, bilingual, and organized person to join our Hispanic Services Department at the Main Library. You will be with our busy five-member team at programs inside the library and in the community. Candidates must have customer service skills, be proficient with technology, and love working with Spanish-speaking populations of all ages!
In this role you will:
- Assist at Hispanic Services’ programs and events, both inside the library and in the community.
- Use programs like Zoom and film videos for online events.
- Perform clerical duties for the department, including work with outside programmers and vendors.
- Translates Spanish/English information as needed.
You will need to be:
- Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with diverse populations.
- Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and able to meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, iPad and/or other videography equipment.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
- General office and customer service experience.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a safe driving record.
37.5 hours per week (Full-Time)– may include days, nights, and weekend hours.
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour + Excellent Benefits (Life, Health, Dental & Vision insurance, IMRF pension plan, vacation, floating holidays, personal time, and sick time + much more).

Book Bike Summer Assistant
Are you looking for a highly engaging and physically active summer job that lets you spend most of your time outdoors? The Book Bike Assistant is a temporary 12-week position which runs from May to August and promises a lot of fun! We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is versatile, friendly, and enjoys providing top-notch customer service and who can comfortably ride an oversized bicycle. The mix of duties will include:
- Riding the Book Bike to various neighborhood locations, including community parks and farmer’s markets to represent the library.
- Assisting Mobile Library Services staff members and/or Book Bike Buddies with tasks.
- Circulating library materials and creating new library card accounts using a mobile checkout system.
- Stocking and unloading library materials on/off the Book Bike.
- Engaging with community members around the Summer Reading Program and other library related events and programs.
- Assisting on the Bookmobile and other library vehicles from time to time as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to safely ride the Book Bike a minimum of 10 miles.
- Completion of Bicycle Safety training will be required.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications.
- Experience working with children a plus.
- Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus.
18 hours per week; variable schedule which includes day, evening, and weekend hours.
Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour.

Summer Branch Services Clerk
We are looking for friendly individuals with excellent communication and customer service skills to work at our 2 branch locations this summer. This is a temporary 12-week position which will run from May through August 2023 and promises fun and an assortment of duties. The individual in this role needs to be versatile, reliable, and love working with people of all ages.
In this role you will:
- Assist children and adults with the summer reading program.
- Assist with children’s and family programs.
- Perform circulation routines, including material handling and shelving.
- Assist customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, eReader, and other mobile devices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices.
- Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus.
- Experience working with children a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch.
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour.

KidSpace Early Literacy Associate
Do you have a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? Are you excited about early literacy and find working with children, parents, and teachers energizing? Do you love reading stories and singing songs with preschoolers? We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic person to join our KidSpace Department at the Main Library. You will be part of a 5-Star organization whose mission is to inspire imagination & transformation. Candidates must have experience planning and presenting Storytimes and large-scale events. In addition, candidates must be proficient with technology, possess strong customer service and reader's advisory skills, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and—most importantly—must enjoy working with children of all ages.
In this role you will:
- Plan and present weekly preschool programs and events.
- Help plan and present large-scale early literacy and family events.
- Provide reader's advisory and reference assistance to children and their caregivers.
- Create themed book displays for the Early Learning Center in the KidSpace Department.
You will need to be:
- Friendly, outgoing, and able to build relationships at all levels.
- Experienced in providing excellent customer service.
- Experienced in planning and presenting Storytimes in small and large groups.
- Knowledgeable about children's books, materials, and technology trends in education.
- Able to collaborate with a team and work one-on-one with customers and staff.
- A motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
- Mindful, adaptable, and open to new ideas and feedback.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experienceworking with children.
- Excellent presentation skills for groups of all sizes and ages.
- Early literacy experience.
- Public library experience desirable.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
18 hours per week; School Year 2022-2023 schedule is: Tuesday 5 – 9pm, Wednesday 8:30am - 2:30pm, Thursday 5-9, Saturday - every other 9am – 5pm. Schedule may change seasonally.
Pay rate: $19.00 per hour.
