Gail Borden Public Library District is seeking a Communications & Marketing Associate to join our highly-visible, award-winning Public Relations & Development team. In this role, you will play an integral part in connecting our community and partners to exceptional resources, impactful literacy initiatives, and museum-quality interactive exhibits.

Qualified candidates will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and collaborate closely with the team to develop engaging, consistent messaging that aligns with the Library’s brand and communication goals.

In this role, you will:

  • Draft, proofread, and edit written content for print and digital marketing promotions
  • Assist with gathering, organizing, formatting, and editing content for the library’s newsletter
  • Assist with maintaining the Library’s social media content calendar across platforms, such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Flickr
  • Gather social media and project metrics and analyze data to create reports.
  • Capture photo/video footage of library events for promotional purposes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Marketing or relevant field of study OR an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting or creating effective marketing communications for an organization, business, or relevant group.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with running business pages on social media and digital communication platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Flickr, X, and email marketing tools such as Constant Contact.
  • Willingness and ability to support video content creation through on-camera participation and behind-the-scenes assistance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in conceptual development meetings for library-wide projects.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

 

Full-time (37.5 hours/week) – Schedule may include occasional evenings & weekends based on library events.

Computer Center Assistant

Join our team at the Main Library! Our Computer Center is seeking a part-time team member who brings enthusiasm and passion for helping others. If you enjoy delivering outstanding customer service and making technology accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, we’d love to hear from you!   

In this role you will:

  • Provide excellent customer service to library users.
  • Assist customers with logging into computers, accessing websites, and formatting documents.
  • Assist customers with printing from PCs and mobile devices, scanning, copying, and faxing.
  • Prepare devices and the Computer Training Room for classes.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment for library users.
  • Perform data entry.

Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer service environment.
  • Hands-on experience using desktop/laptop computers, mobile devices, software, and apps.
  • Successful completion of a computer skills assessment test.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills preferred.

Part-Time: 18 hours per week. Schedule to be determined and subject to change.

Branch Customer Relations Assistant  

Are you passionate about libraries and providing excellent customer service? Gail Borden Public Library is seeking a dedicated Branch Assistant to join our versatile, cross-trained team! The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic team player. This role is crucial in maintaining the smooth operation of our library and ensuring a positive experience for all patrons.

In this role you will:

  • Search for books, audiobooks, DVDs, and other materials using the library’s online catalog.
  • Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to customers.
  • Assist customers with registering new library cards, placing holds, and checking out materials.
  • Handle materials by performing check-in and shelving.
  • Assist customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, laptop dispenser, eReaders, and other mobile devices.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills a plus.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch.

18 hours per week – split between both Branch locations. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours.
