Temporary Pause in License Plate Renewal Services Effective April 16, 2026
License Plate Renewal Services will be temporarily unavailable beginning April 16, 2026. Our current service provider has unexpectedly ceased operations. Because this service requires a third-party state-integrated systems, there will be a period of downtime as we finalize details and setup with a new provider.
- We cannot process new renewals beginning April 16.
- We're working diligently to minimize downtime.
- We will share updates as soon as they become available.
- You can still renew online via the Illinois Secretary of State website or at another local facility.

Renew Your License Plate - Main Library Only
Gail Borden Library offers Illinois License Plate sticker renewal service. Illinois residents will be able to renew their license plate stickers and leave with the sticker the same day*. You will need your Illinois Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Driver's license number and license plate number.

Please Note: If your vehicle needs to pass an emissions test, the Library will be unable to renew your license plate.

Renewals will be available during the following hours at the Main Library only (first floor, customer service area).

Fees & Payment Methods
Customers will be able to pay with cash, debit or credit card. (An ATM machine is available at KCT Credit Union; inside the lobby of the Main Library.)
Cost of renewal sticker: Varies
Service fee for each renewal: $8.00
Processing fee for using credit/debit card:$5.00
We do not accept checks.
