Substitute Bookmobile Driver

Looking to get out of the house? Do you want to do something for others and have fun?  Our Bookmobile Services Department is looking for a unique individual with the desire to serve our community by driving a 33’8” 29,000 lb. bookmobile. Due to the size and weight of the vehicle, a CDL license is required. In addition to safe driving, the ideal person for this position will know the Elgin area and have exceptional customer service skills to interact with children and adults who will be visiting the Bookmobile.

Some responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing daily vehicle checklists and ensuring the Bookmobile is fueled and ready for business
  • Ensuring appropriate materials are shelved for the audience of the day’s route
  • Assisting Bookmobile customers with questions and information requests
  • Working with volunteers and Bookmobile Assistants to serve customers at the Bookmobile stops
  • Checking out materials

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or equivalent
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Must have a record of safe driving for a minimum of 5 years
  • Familiarity with Elgin area and the Gail Borden Public Library District a plus
  • Valid personal vehicle insurance
  • Customer service experience
  • Library customer relations and Sierra circulation experience a plus
  • Spanish language a plus
  • Positive attitude in support of the library’s mission, vision and values
  • Subject to a background check and drug screen

 

Temporary Position- (18 hours / week from approximately September 21st – October 17th plus

December 14th – 23rd). Must be available to work evenings and Saturdays based on the Bookmobile

Schedule. Must also be available to substitute as needed after December 23rd.  

Hourly Rate: $18.92 per hour

Videographer & Graphic Designer

Gail Borden Public Library has an immediate opening for a full-time Videographer & Graphic Designer to work in our fast-paced Graphics Department. Qualified candidates must have experience and be proficient with recording audio and video content, as well as telling “the story” through creative editing of the recorded content.

Candidates must also be able to design and produce brochures, signs, posters, flyers, program props and other print materials. In addition, the position requires taking photos of library events and exhibits, editing, and posting to communication channels.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts or equivalent college coursework with hands-on experience with video recording, video editing and photography
  • End-to-end video production experience, as well as knowledge of animation or motion graphics
  • Ability to work collaboratively in conceptual development meetings for library-wide projects
  • Highly developed skill in graphics and composition with a keen eye for detail and the ability to create a finished product such as brochures, flyers, posters or other printed material
  • Experience and skill using Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, Premier and After Effects
  • Experience with social media and content marketing
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology; comfortable with trying out new technology
  • Superb interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
  • Must be comfortable interacting with the public
  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of motivation, commitment and dedication to take a project from the beginning to the end
  • Positive attitude in support of the library’s mission, vision and values

Full-time position (37.5 hours/week) with occasional evenings & weekends based on library events

Salary: $20.52 per hour DOQ + Excellent Benefits
