Information Services Library Associate

The Gail Borden Public Main Library has a part-time position available at the public Information Desk in the Information Services Department.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with a team to provide excellent customer service
  • Serve as U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent *
  • Respond to customer inquiries for information, books, and other materials
  • Refer questions to a librarian as appropriate
  • Promote library services
  • Assist customers with technology
  • Answer phone calls

 

*Eligibility requirements to become a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent:

  • U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Does not have a record of either: (i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or (ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including but not limited to embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of technology including Microsoft Office, smartphones, tablets, and computers
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English and Spanish

 

Part-Time:  25 hours per week including days, evenings, and weekends. Schedule may vary from week to week.

Hourly Rate:  $17.28+ IMRF and Prorated Paid Time Off Benefits

Manager of Rakow Branch Library 

It’s an exciting time to join the Branch Services team of the Gail Borden Public Library District in Elgin.  We are seeking an experienced and innovative individual with a strong commitment to public service to lead and manage our Rakow Branch on the west side of the city. The successful candidate will be a forward-thinking, 21st century librarian with excellent administrative and leadership skills who is proven to be highly competent in making decisions, supervising staff, establishing and maintaining community partnerships, providing services to children and adults, and managing the day-to-day operations of the branch.

Rakow Branch is a 10,000 sq. ft. gold LEED certified building and combines cutting-edge architectural design with sustainability and efficiency. 

Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA accredited school
  • Minimum of three years increasingly responsible experience in public library service including supervisory experience, programming, and project management

Full-time, exempt position (37.5 hours per week); must be available to work evenings and weekends

Salary: $55,010 Commensurate with experience + Excellent Benefits including: IMRF enrollment, health, dental, life & vision insurance and time-off benefits
