Branch Early Literacy Associate
Are you a creative, hands-on person with a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? If you are passionate about early literacy and enjoy serving young children and families? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our Branch Services team. The successful candidate will be an energetic team player who makes customers feel at home, and – most importantly- enjoys working with children of all ages.
In this role, you will:
- Coordinate, plan, and present early childhood programs and events at both branch locations, including weekly storytimes, play programs, and crafts.
- Oversee children’s spaces to ensure a pleasant and playful learning environment.
- Facilitate age-appropriate self-directed programming activities.
- Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults.
- Assist customers with computer applications, eReaders, and other mobile devices.
- Serve as Person-in-Charge in the absence of the Branch Manager.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience working with children in group settings.
- Early literacy experience is desired.
- Previous library and customer service experience preferred, especially previous experience working with children.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer and mobile device applications
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel between the branch locations.
Full-time position (37.5 hours/week) - Schedule will include weekday, evening, and weekend hours and will require travel between branch locations.

Director of Mobile Library Services
Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a dynamic, positive, creative, and experienced Librarian to join our versatile, cross-trained, ten-member Mobile Library Services Department. The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic leader who is passionate about serving our 145,000 district residents across 65 square miles.
In this role you will:
- Lead and manage Mobile Services staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Oversee a variety of engaging mobile services in the community, including Home Services, Digital Equity, Elementary School Services, Early Literacy, Bookmobile and Book Bike.
- Oversee vehicles and operations at the Davis Rd. Annex, home of the Mobile Library Services Department.
Qualifications:
- MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a public library position including supervisory experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Class C License, preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience driving a large vehicle or school bus, preferred.
- Must have a safe driving record for a minimum of five years.
- Customer service experience.
- Library ILS and library outreach experience a plus.
- Spanish language a plus.
Full-time position (37.5 hours/week) - Schedule may include weekday, evening, and weekend hours.

Branch Customer Relations Assistant
Are you passionate about libraries and providing excellent customer service? Gail Borden Public Library is seeking two dedicated Branch Assistants to join our versatile, cross-trained team! We are looking for possible start dates for these positions to be in mid to late August.
The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic team player. This role is crucial in maintaining the smooth operation of our library and ensuring a positive experience for all patrons.
In this role you will:
- Search for books, audiobooks, DVDs, and other materials using the library’s online catalog.
- Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to customers.
- Assist customers with registering new library cards, placing holds, and checking out materials.
- Handle materials by performing check-in and shelving.
- Assist customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, laptop dispenser, eReaders, and other mobile devices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices.
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch.
18 hours per week – split between both Branch locations. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours.
