Web Applications Specialist

Gail Borden Public Library is looking for an individual who has interest in and experience with developing and managing websites and web applications. This full-time position is in the Library Applications Department at the Main Library. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated and detail-oriented with demonstrable experience in web development and website management with a touch of web design skills to support content creators.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining the library’s web services running on the Joomla platform
  • Enforcing standards and consistency in layout and information architecture for the internal and external websites
  • Providing guidance to library staff in implementing new Library Applications systems

Key Qualifications:

  • Two years of college with technical or advanced coursework in computer science, or three years of combined education and experience which provides the skills needed for effective job performance
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript coding skills, as well as experience with responsive web design
  • Knowledge of user experience best practices and web conventions
  • Ability to configure and maintain a CMS platform
  • Ability to configure and maintain a hosted website
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential
    • Knowledge of PHP and other web programming languages a plus

 

Schedule:  Full-time 37.5 hours per week; Monday–Friday flexible, daytime hours

Salary:  $52,104 per year DOQ + Excellent Benefits

Branch Services Clerk

If you enjoy providing top-notch customer service and want to join our talented and resourceful library team, we have an exciting opportunity for you! The South Elgin Branch Library location is looking for a customer-focused, creative, and enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can master a variety of tasks in a busy environment. The mix of duties includes assisting customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, eReader, and other mobile devices, as well as, assisting with library programs, material handling, and shelving.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Experience working with children a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus

Part-Time: 18 hours per week at the South Elgin Branch.

(Schedule may include weekday, evening, and weekend hours. The schedule may change as necessitated by the library’s operational demands.)

  • Sunday 12-4 pm
  • Monday 12-4 pm
  • Thursday 10 am-3 pm
  • Friday 10 am-3 pm

 

Hourly Rate:  $13.16 per hour

Finance Assistant

Are you a “numbers” person? Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a part-time Finance Assistant to work onsite in the Finance Department at the Main Library location. The individual must be reliable, accurate, detail-oriented and be able to adapt to change quickly and positively.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Cash handling and account reconciliation
  • Preparing bank deposits including transport to the local bank
  • Assist with monthly board remittances and mailings
  • Financial data entry
  • Spreadsheet preparation
  • Setting up vendor accounts
  • Ordering and maintaining office supply inventory

Intermediate knowledge of Excel is required. Candidate must have good interpersonal skills to interact with all levels within the organization, as well as with vendors.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in accounting and/or business including cash reconciliation and purchasing functions
  • Must be proficient with internet use, Microsoft Word & Excel, adding machine use, and accurate data entry
  • Detail-minded with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Must be a team-player with the ability to adapt to change to routines and workflows
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving record history will be requested upon hire)  

Part-time:  15 hours per week; 3 days per week, Mon – Fri between the hours of 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

                (additional hours and/or schedule changes may be required around library board meeting

                dates or end-of-month reconciliation periods)      

Hourly Rate:  $17.28 per hour + prorated Personal Time and Floating Holiday time off benefits

Bookmobile Services Assistant

Are you looking for an exciting part-time job in a vibrant community? Are you interested in providing excellent customer service to both our English and Spanish-speaking customers? Are you a hands-on individual who enjoys working closely with people? If so, then Gail Borden Library has a great opportunity for you in our Mobile Library Services Department.

This position requires working onboard the Bookmobile and other outreach vehicles with the rest of our Mobile Library Services team to venture beyond the library’s walls and engage our customers where they live, work, play, and relax.  The successful individual needs to be bilingual in English and Spanish, an excellent team player, and well-organized with excellent time management, prioritization capabilities and follow-up skills.

Some of the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists Bookmobile customers with questions and information requests
  • Sorts and shelves library materials aboard our outreach vehicles and at the Library
  • Ensures appropriate materials are shelved for the audience of each day’s route
  • Performs daily check out/check in of materials on board Bookmobile and at Main Library
  • Assists with daily vehicle checklist and logs
  • Uses the library’s software for check out of materials, extended usage fees, and library card registrations
  • Takes action and knows the procedures to deal with potentially disruptive or unsafe situations
  • Works with other Mobile Library Services staff to develop a positive, collaborative, and strong team
  • Adapts well to changes in existing practices, library routines, and workflows

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bilingual Spanish/English verbal language skills are required
  • Previous customer service experience a plus
  • Experience working with children a plus
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Library ILS experience a plus
  • Experience with school bus or large vehicles a plus

Part-time:  18 hours per week; schedule includes days, evenings and weekend hours
