Temporary Branch Customer Relations Assistant
Two temporary part-time positions will be available at our Rakow Branch and South Elgin Branch locations from May through August 2025. We are looking for friendly individuals with excellent communication and customer service skills. The individuals in these positions need to be versatile and reliable.
In this role you will:
- Assist children and adults with the summer reading program.
- Assist with children’s and family programs.
- Search for books, audiobooks, DVDs, and other materials using the library’s online catalog.
- Assist customers with placing holds and checking out materials.
- Handle materials by performing check-in and shelving.
- Assist customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, laptop dispenser, eReaders, and other mobile devices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices.
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch.
18 hours per week – split between both Branch locations. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours.
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

Branch Customer Relations Associate
Are you passionate about libraries and providing excellent customer service? Gail Borden Public Library is seeking two dedicated Branch Customer Relations Associates to join our versatile, cross-trained team! The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic team player. This role is crucial in maintaining the smooth operation of our library and ensuring a positive experience for all patrons. You will serve as Person in Charge and handle problem situations in the manager’s absence.
In this role you will:
- Provide readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults.
- Perform circulation services, including check-in/check-out of materials and placing holds on materials.
- Perform library card registration and program registration.
- Assist customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, laptop dispenser, eReaders, and other mobile devices.
- Assist with supervising, training, and coordinating the activities of support staff.
- Serve as Person in Charge (PIC) in the absence of Managers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Previous library and customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices.
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch.
18 hours per week – split between both Branch locations. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours.

Copy Shop Assistant
Are you organized and like to work in a fast-paced environment? If so, bring your organizational talent to our award-winning Library! This position’s primary responsibility is printing production and photocopying of library materials. Additional tasks may include cutting, folding, stapling, laminating, or collation of materials.
This position may be asked to assist the marketing team with other tasks or special events as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills for managing digital files and document layouts.
- Proficiency with equipment such as copiers, printers, and scanners.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing print jobs.
- Ability to discern colors and fonts.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and handle moderate physical tasks, such as lifting paper reams and other supplies.
- Ability to push a cart of items weighing up to 200 pounds.
15 hours per week; Monday – Friday daytime hours with some flexibility to the schedule.

Branch Information & Technology Associate
We are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, and dynamic individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our Branch Library Services team! In this role, you will be instrumental in assisting adults with accessing library resources and programs while fostering a warm and inclusive environment for all customers. You’ll have the opportunity to make an impact by delivering programs, offering tech support, and ensuring smooth operations in the absence of the manager.
In this role you will:
- Plan and present adult programs at both the Rakow Branch and South Elgin Branch.
- Host and provide program support including communication with presenters.
- Facilitate passive programming activities for various adult audiences.
- Provide readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults.
- Perform circulation routines, including library card registration, material handling, and shelving.
