Customer Relations Clerk
Gail Borden Public Library has a part-time position available in our highly active Customer Relations Department at the Main Library location. The ideal candidate for this position must have excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to problem-solve and analyze customer needs.
Primary job duties include:
- Performs library material check-in and check-outs, renewals, holds, customer library card registrations and license plate renewals in accordance with established library policies and procedures.
- Provides front-line customer service to library users by answering questions and being proactive with offering assistance in a friendly and professional manner.
- Uses technology and digital resources to assist patrons with electronic platforms.
We are looking for someone who is:
- A real “people Person”, enthusiastic, caring, friendly, and empathetic.
- A team player who thinks quickly on their feet as decisions need to be made.
- A self-starter who can work independently, as well as with a team.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a customer service environment is desirable.
- Basic math skills and ability to alphabetize.
- Bilingual Spanish language skills desirable.
25 hours per week– combination of days, nights, and weekend hours
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour + Enrollment in IMRF for a future pension and prorated time-off benefits.

Reference Librarian
Are you looking for an exciting part-time job in a vibrant community? We are currently looking for a part-time librarian to work in our Information Services Department at the Main Library downtown Elgin.
This position provides general reference assistance to information and research requests from our customers, in-person, virtually, and by appointment, and staffs the Information Desk. The ideal candidate will enjoy engaging with the community and will consistently provide excellent customer service.
Qualifications:
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school (transcript must be provided upon hire).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with technology such as Microsoft Office, smartphones, tablets, screencasting.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing practices, workflows, and routines.
- Understanding and practice of ALA’s Code of Ethics
- Public library experience desirable.
- Bilingual Spanish-English skills preferred.
Part-time: 18 hours per week; schedule includes days, evenings, and weekend hours. Current schedule includes Tuesdays 3:00-9:00PM and Thursdays 9:00AM-3:00PM.
Pay Rate: $28.00 per hour.

Hispanic Services Program Assistant
¿Te encanta ayudar a los demás/Do you love helping others? Gail Borden Library District is looking for a friendly, bilingual, and organized person to join our Hispanic Services Department at the Main Library. You will be with our busy five-member team at programs inside the library and in the community. Candidates must have customer service skills, be proficient with technology, and love working with Spanish-speaking populations of all ages!
In this role you will:
- Assist at Hispanic Services’ programs and events, both inside the library and in the community.
- Use programs like Zoom and film videos for online events.
- Perform clerical duties for the department, including work with outside programmers and vendors.
- Translates Spanish/English information as needed.
You will need to be:
- Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with diverse populations.
- Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and able to meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, iPad and/or other videography equipment.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
- General office and customer service experience.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a safe driving record.
37.5 hours per week (Full-Time)– may include days, nights, and weekend hours.
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour + Excellent Benefits (Life, Health, Dental & Vision insurance, IMRF pension plan, vacation, floating holidays, personal time, and sick time + much more).
