Mobile Library Services Assistant
Are you looking for an exciting part-time job in a vibrant community? Are you interested in providing excellent customer service to both our English and Spanish-speaking customers? Are you a hands-on individual who enjoys working closely with people? If so, then Gail Borden Library has a great opportunity for you in our Mobile Library Services Department.
This position requires working onboard the Bookmobile, TechKnow Mobile and other outreach vehicles with the rest of our Mobile Library Services team to venture beyond the library’s walls and engage our customers where they live, work, play, and relax. The successful individual needs to be bilingual in English and Spanish, an excellent team player, and well-organized with excellent time management, prioritization capabilities and follow-up skills.
Some of the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assists Mobile Library Services customers with questions and information requests
- Sorts and shelves library materials aboard our outreach vehicles and at the Library
- Ensures appropriate materials are shelved for the audience of each day’s route
- Performs daily check out/check in of materials on board vehicles and at Main Library
- Assists with daily vehicle checklist and logs
- Uses the library’s software for check out of materials and library card registrations
- Works with other Mobile Library Services staff to develop a positive, collaborative, and strong team
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bilingual Spanish/English verbal language skills are required
- Previous customer service experience a plus
- Experience working with children a plus
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
- Experience with school bus or large vehicles a plus
Part-time: 18 hours per week: Tuesday from 11:30am-5:30pm & Thursday and Friday from 8am-2pm
Hourly Rate: $17.00 per hour

Senior Branch Clerk
We are looking for a friendly individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our versatile, cross-trained Branch Library Services team. The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic team player who makes customers feel at home and can be an exemplary Person in Charge in the manager’s absence.
In this role you will:
- Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults.
- Assist customers with computer applications and mobile devices.
- Perform circulation routines, including library card registration, material handling, and shelving.
- Serve as Person in Charge (PIC) in manager’s absence.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous library and customer service experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices
- Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch
Part-Time: 18 hours per week at the Rakow Branch and South Elgin Branch. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours and will be split between the 2 branch locations.
Hourly Rate: $17.40 per hour
