Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the library!

Volunteens are 6th-8th grade students who volunteer in Gail Borden Library's KidSpace. You'll volunteer with other teens, completing a variety of projects. Volunteer hours can be used to fulfill service commitments at school, church, or other organizations.

High-schoolers who wish to volunteer can join the Studio Volunteer Corps based out of Studio 270.

Step 1: Complete a Volunteen Application

Volunteen Applications must be completed prior to volunteering. One application is required per school year. Applications are available at the main library Youth Center Desk.

You can also download an application from home and drop off the completed application at the Youth Center Desk. CLICK HERE to download the Volunteen Application.

Step 2: Register Online

FAQs

Can I register for Volunteens at the library?

Absolutely! Stop by the Main Library Youth Center Desk, and we'd be happy to help you register. You're also welcome to give the Youth Center Desk a call at (847) 429-4685.

What happens after I turn in my Volunteen Application and register online?

Volunteen Coordinator Aron Ryan will be in touch with all the info you'll need to succeed in Volunteens.

Can I volunteer at the Rakow Branch or South Elgin Branch?

At this time, Volunteens is only available at the main library location. Limited Program Helper opportunities at the branches may be available to Volunteens sometime in the future.

What's a Program Helper?

Program Helpers assist library staff at designated library programs - such as Read to Rover, Kids Explore, and more! If you love working with kids, then we encourage you to apply on your Volunteen Application. Volunteen Coordinator Aron Ryan will reach out with more information about Program Helper opportunities if and when they become available.
